First Night In The Toddler Bed

Last night was Kaden’s first night sleeping in the toddler bed. I was worried that he wouldn’t stay in it at all and would get into stuff, but he did really well. He stayed in his bed and talked for a bit. About 15 minutes into it, we heard a loud thunk and he came running out all upset. The little fall scared him. Once we got him calmed back down we put him back to bed and he went to sleep and slept all night until we got him up for Denny’s this morning. I was pretty surprised. Today has been a very busy day so hopefully he’ll sleep well tonight too. We got up about 8 this morning and went to breakfast at Denny’s, then Kaden and I went to Target and I bought him a toy shovel and rake so we came home and played with those in the backyard for quite awhile. After that, we came inside and played with toys and then went to lunch and the zoo with my sister. He had a lot of fun at the zoo. His favorite was the gorillas. I would post pics but they’re all on my sister’s camera. After the zoo, we blew up his froggy pool and he went for a little swim. He had a lot of fun with that too. Now it’s bathtime and then bed.

Kaden is a crack up

We’ve just recently started to try out this potty training thing. He went on his potty for the first time last night and we’re pretty excited about it. So today I asked if he needed to go potty. He just looked at me. I said, “Mommy is going to go potty.” And he said, “No, I go potty!” “You need to go potty?” I asked. “I go potty!” He said. So I said, “Well, come on then.” He just stared at me with a funny look on his face. So I asked, “Did you already go?” He replied, “Umm..” Hah. He cracks me up. We’ll try again later.

In other news we found out that his crib was recalled. We bought it in a 3 piece furniture set from Wal-Mart, so now we have to return all 3 pieces. Not going to be fun. But they’re going to refund our money in a gift card. We’re debating between getting him a toddler bed or just going ahead and getting a twin bed. We’re going to have to get him a new dresser too. But at least we wont have a changing table anymore so that will open up a lot of space in his already small room. We’re pretty excited about the transitions he’s making. We’ll have to get some sort of lock for his bi-fold closet doors cuz I know he’s going to get out of bed and tear everything out of the closet.

Two year check up

Kaden had his 2 year check up on April 5th. He now weighs 26.4 pounds and is 35 1/4 inches tall. He got two more shots so he was grumpy until we got back out to the slide and fish tank in the waiting room and he forgot all about it. We found out he has eczema. Which I guess isn’t uncommon on my side of the family, both me and my dad have it and now Kaden does too. Yay! Not much else to report. He talking more and more everyday, although most of what he says can’t be understood. He’s taken a liking to cooking, sweeping and raking. Well, I guess that’s it for now. I’ll try to update more often.

18 Months Old!

Kaden turned 18 months old on the 24th and had his checkup on the 28th. He’s not 31 1/2 inches tall and weighs 23.6 pounds. He got two more shots and was angry about it like usual. But he forgot all about it when we went down the slide again on the little play place things they have in the waiting room. He loooves slides. We go back in a month for more shots cuz I decides not to get them all done at the same time.

Kaden’s walking skills are getting a lot better. He’s getting pretty speedy. He finally likes to play in his sandbox too… and eat rocks out of it.

First Molar

It’s been a while since I last updated. Not a lot has gone on. Kaden’s first molar came in and he’s currently working on a few other teeth as well. Still not quite walking on his own yet, but getting close. He walked across the living room on his own last night though. He can do it pretty well, you just have to make him do it. He gets excited and goes too fast and loses his balance a lot. He’d rather just skip to running. He’s eating pretty much everything we eat now. Except spaghetti. I don’t know why he doesn’t like it cuz he liked it before in the baby food jars. Oh well. He still doesn’t say any words other than “Momma.” He doesn’t even say “Dadda” anymore like he used to. So that’s all he says. He just squeaks and squeals. I don’t know why. :-/

Kaden’s First Vacation

We took Kaden on his first real vacation to Colorado over 4th of July weekend. It was a loooong drive but he did very well in the car.. until we got lost anyways. You can read more about that adventure on ShinyDuck. He slept off and on and talked a lot in the backseat. We had to stop and feed and change him and stretch our legs every so often. We had to stay in a hotel that night and got to my uncles cabin in the mountains the next day. Kaden liked to sit out on the porch and look around. I think he liked the mountains.

15 Month Check Up

Yesterday I took Kaden to his 15 month check up. He got 2 more immunization shots and was pretty unhappy, like usual. He’s now 21 pounds and 30 inches long. He was at the -1 percentile for weight at his 12 month appointment and is now at the 6th percentile. So he’s improved a lot since then.

We went to Red Robin with my Dad on Father’s Day. Kaden got a nice blue balloon and loved it. He finally popped it yesterday though. I was surprised it even lasted that long.

He is mastering drinking through a straw. He’s pretty good. Except he doesn’t really know when to stop.

Kaden’s First Sleep Over

Kaden had his first sleep over without us last weekend. He went to Overland Park and stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Smith and got to visit lots of family. He did really well and had lots of fun. They took him to the petting zoo and I hear he didn’t care for the goats too much.

He also got his first professional haircut a few weeks ago. He did pretty well. They blew bubbles for him to look at while they cut his hair. So he looks like a little boy again with his little boy haircut.

We’ve gone to the pool a few times with Kaden. He doesn’t like the cold water very much but he gets used to it after a while. He likes sitting in his floaty though.

Grandma Pat brought over a lady bug sand box for him a while back. I finally went to Lowe’s and got sand for it and of course, he hates it. But I guess he’s still a little young for that.

We went to Riverside Park a few weeks ago. They have fountain things little kids run around in. He didn’t like it too much but he watched. So we went and played on the playground instead. He likes to swing.

Kaden’s got one more tooth since I last updated. So he now has 4 on the top and 4 on the bottom. He still isn’t walking on his own yet. He walks along all the furniture and is now walking when we hold just one of his hands. He’s still working on the whole balance thing.

He has a few words he says. He says “Momma,” “Dadda,” “Baba”(for bottle) and his word for ‘light’,'hi’ and ‘bye’ are the same, he says, “ah.” He waves with his hi and bye “ah” and points at the light with his light “ah.” He also knows what “no” means cuz he shakes his head when I tell him no. He doesn’t listen very well though.
