Baby Smith

Kaden had x-rays taken of his skull and his doctor sent them and a prescription over to the place to have a helmet made to make his head round.  So we were supposed to go do that yesterday.  But the helmet place called and said his head “isn’t mishapen enough.”  so insurance wont cover it.  So now we have to wait and see if his head is any better or worse at his 9 month checkup.  I wish we could have just gotten it taken care of now instead of waiting for it to get worse.

Other than that all is well I guess.  Kaden still doesn’t have any teeth yet although the bottom ones are trying.  He still can’t sit up yet. It makes me sad cuz all my friends babies that were born after he was are all sitting up perfectly on their own and he can’t even sit up for 2 seconds.  :-(  His pooping problem still isn’t better either.  I’ve been giving him extra water and that seemed to help for about a week but now it’s back to going 10+ days without going.  It makes him uncomfortable and cranky but I don’t know what else to do.  Maybe I’ll try giving him some Karo Syrup.  Everyone says that might help.   Well, I guess that’s about all the new I have to report.

Today was Kaden’s six month checkup.  He got the rest of his shots that he needs until he’s one year old, hooray!  So he’s kind of cranky.  He weighs 15 pounds and is 26 inches long.  She said he’s in the 25th percentile for height and the 10th percentile for weight. His flat side of his head didn’t improve much so now he has to have skull x-rays and see another doctor to see if it’s severe enough for a helmet. Great. But other than that, he’s going good.

I gave Kaden his first haircut the other night.  The sides were really long. He wasn’t too thrilled about it, he was crying the whole time.  I decided we would have some fun with his long hair before it got chopped off sooooo.. I did. The pictures will show for that haha.  If Kaden realized what I was doing to him he probably would have been mad at me haha. Oh well.

Kaden had a big weekend.  We left Friday night when Chad got home from work to go up to Overland Park to surprise his dad for his birthday.  He was at the bar DJing karaoke so Kaden got to go to the bar for the first time hehe.  We didn’t stay there too long and we went back to their house and stayed the night.  Saturday we went to Chad’s brothers house for lunch and so Kaden could visit his cousins.  After that we went back to his parents house.  His aunt and grandparents came over to visit too.  So Kaden was up most of the time with not very many naps.  He slept most of the way home though.  Norma Jean had to go with us too.  She was a butthead about having to sleep in her box and wouldn’t quit barking while we were there so she got put in the garage at night. :-P  We drove back Saturday night and got home around 10 I think.  Sunday we slept in until about 11.  Then we got around and went downtown and went for a stroll down by the river.  It was nice.

Other than that not much has happened.  Kaden learned how to spit… hooray.  He did this while he was eating a bottle and spit it all over my face.  I didn’t think it was very nice.  Oh well.  We’re going to get his six month pictures taken one the 27th and he has his six month check up on the 30th.  He has to get more shots so he’ll be upset.

Kaden tried on his tiger costume last night.  It’s still a tad too big but it’ll be just fine.  I like it, it’s pretty stinkin cute!  I can’t wait for him to wear it.

Not much has gone on recently which is why I haven’t updated in awhile.  Kaden still isn’t pooing well since he’s been on formula because of all the iron in it.  We’ve been having to give him suppositories which none of us like to do.  We go for his 6 month check up on the 29th so I’m going to see if there’s anything else we can do for him.  He likes to help with holding his bottle now too, such a big boy.  :-P  Saturday was Kaden’s first time in church.  My cousin’s kid was getting baptized so we went to the service and then went to Carlos O’Kelly’s afterward.  Kaden didn’t get much of a nap that day so he was cranky.  He did fall asleep for a little bit during the service though hehe.  He was pretty upset at the restaurant though. It was noisy and he was sleepy.  He slept right when we got in the car though.  It’s been pretty chilly so Kaden has got to wear lots of his feety pajamas. We like feety jamas.

We went out to my grandparent’s house in Arlingtion for Labor Day today.  Kaden got lots of attention and actually let other people hold him for a while without screaming.  He’s getting to the point where he thinks it’s NOT okay for anyone but me or Daddy to hold him.

Grandma and Grandpa gave us their video camera so we would have one, yay!  We haven’t tried it out yet though.  It was bought back in 2000 so it’s kind of old.  It uses 8mm video cassettes which don’t do us much good because we have no way of putting them on the computer.  :(  Sooo, I guess we’re still needing to buy a new one… eventually.

Kaden is now unable to be kept on his tummy for very long.  He’s gotten a little too good at the rolling over thing.  Now I almost wish he didn’t learned how haha.  We try to keep him off his head as much as possible so he doesn’t have to wear a helmet for his flat head.  I read that he is more susceptible to it because he was premature.  But anyways, here are a few new pictures from yesterday.

Kaden turned 5 months old yesterday! His grandma and aunt came to town and stayed with us for the weekend.  He got a lot of attention and was pretty excited about it.  He likes to squeak and squeal a lot more now.  There’s no keeping him on his tummy now either. You lay him on his tummy and turn around and the next thing you know he’s already on his back.  We had to start him on formula yesterday because I’m not getting enough milk anymore.  So he gets whatever I can get and formula.  The formula is harder for him to digest and is milk based and he’s always had kind of a problem with milk. So his tummy isn’t too happy with the change.  Maybe he’ll get used to it.

Kaden’s feet finally reach the floor in his rainforest jumper!  He’s pretty excited about it and bounces all over the place.  It’s pretty funny to watch.  I really wish we had a video camera.  :-(  I took a few pictures of him yesterday.  Again, if you would like to contribute to our camera fund you can do so by clicking the donate button.
